Frequently Asked Questions
About Word to PDF
Conversion runs through LibreOffice's document engine — the primary path this tool relies on for accurately reproducing Word's fonts, tables, images, headers, footers, and hyperlinks in the output PDF. If LibreOffice is ever unavailable on the server, a simpler fallback converts via HTML instead, which reproduces the text and basic structure but loses more of the precise visual formatting than the primary path.
If your document has tracked changes, review the output — this tool doesn't explicitly apply a "resolve all tracked changes" step before converting, so the result generally reflects how LibreOffice itself displays the document. Comments and revision history are not included in the PDF output either way.
Key Features
- Primary conversion via LibreOffice's document engine for high-fidelity font, table, and image reproduction
- Supports .docx (Word 2007 and later) and .doc (Word 97–2003) formats
- Preserves fonts, tables, images, headers, footers, page breaks, and hyperlinks in the primary conversion path
- Automatic HTML-based fallback if LibreOffice is unavailable, so conversion never simply fails
- Output PDF compatible with all PDF readers on all platforms
Tips for Best Results
- 1 Embed fonts in your Word document before converting (File → Options → Save → Embed fonts in the file) to ensure custom fonts render correctly for all recipients.
- 2 If your document has tracked changes, accept or reject them in Word before converting to be certain which version appears in the PDF.
- 3 For large documents with many high-resolution images, use Compress PDF after converting to reduce the file size for easy email sharing.
